I started watching movies "selectively" almost six years ago. By "selectively" I mean that I don't just watch any movie out there. It shouldn't be the box office blockbuster, or the one with the highest-paid cast ever, or even the one with the most adrenaline-pumping action sequences. I look for movies that truly mean something other than merely two hours of entertainment and popcorn; movies that make you wonder, think and change perspective of how you view matters in real life regardless of their genre, cast and budget.
“Every great film should seem new every time you see it.”
Roger Ebert (Film critic)
I have developed this selective taste in movies mainly due to reading movie reviews by highly renowned critics such as the late Roger Ebert, Rolling Stone's Peter Travers and my personal favorite James Berardinelli. These guys turn your attention as a viewer to details that go unnoticed while watching a movie, and I really credit my slight knowledge in cinema to them. Additionally, over the years I have followed movie festivals and awards with more curiosity. Cannes, Toronto, the SAG awards, the Golden Globes and the Oscars tend to filter movies and identify those really worth watching for one reason or another.
Up until this very day, I have watched and rated 342 movies, according to the IMDB website. It is a big number indeed, despite the fact that I still have tens of movies on my to-watch list. Through this blog, I will not review movies, as I am by no means a movie critic, but I shall be posting about certain scenes, characters and events that have deeply affected me.
